German High Command
Year of Publication: 1938
This map series of England and Wales was a German re-issue of the standard 40 Ordnance Survey sheets, rescaled to 1:100,000 from the original 1:126,720 (½ inch to one mile).
Produced in about 1938 with a companion series covering Scotland, the survey data of these maps dates back as far 1895 in some cases.
Although the map bears the legend "Sonderausgabe! Nur für den Dienstgebrauch!" ("Special edition! For military use only!"), there is no precise mention of which German authority was responsible for its publication.
The maps contain precisely the same detail and information as their original OS series; no additional intelligence has been added by the Germans.
This map is part of a complete set captured from a Luftwaffe establishment in 1945.
