I've been very busy the past few weeks; the weather has been surprisingly good for this time of year, and I've been out and about so much that I've not had time to record my activities.

I've been completely consumed by my research of anti-invasion defences and so will start to retro-blog what I've been up to, namely:

  • Visiting Cuckmere Haven
  • Closely examining a Martello Tower
  • Investigating the defences around Newhaven
  • Continuing my cycle ride along the Royal Military Canal
  • Taking in the view from an unusual observation post

Martello Tower

Napoleonic gun towers built along the vulnerable coasts of SE England 1805-1812. Most that still stood in 1940 were occupied for military defence, as artillery observation posts or by the Royal Observer Corps. Many towers had a concrete roof added for extra protection.
